Coaching Code of Ethics

(adapted from the COMENSA, EMCC, and ICF Code of Ethics)

This code of ethics is not a legal document or agreement and is intended to guide me (the coach) in my professional standards and conduct during the coaching partnership with clients (the coachees) and sponsors (companies, organizations, and other institutions that are paying or providing for the coaching program and its sessions). It is meant to provide accountability in all my behavior throughout my work with clients. As such, I commit to adhere to the following code of ethics:

1.     Transparency

a.     Before starting a coaching relationship and journey with my client, I will explain the extent, content, format, and coaching process or model. In a coaching contract, we will agree on duration, cost, confidentiality, and expectations, among other aspects of coaching, including what coaching is and what it is not, as well as what goes beyond my capability or responsibility as a coach.

b.     I will communicate my competency levels, such as professional experience or qualifications, recognize my limitations, and seek professional development or supervision to maintain coaching excellence and a meaningful coaching presence with the client.

2.     Professional Excellence

a.     I will strictly preserve client confidentiality and all data related to our coaching process, adhering to privacy laws, including the protection of digital data.

b.     I will not engage, in nor encourage illegal activities, or any activities that can harm the client, sponsors, or society, including but not limited to harassment, bullying, discrimination, sexual misconduct (e.g., entering a romantic relationship with my clients or sponsors), or providing advice on medical aspects or mental health of the client.

c.      If a conflict of interest arises, I will name it with the client and seek an immediate solution that keeps the best interest of the client and sponsor in mind.

d.     I will use kind, strength-based, solution-focused language through powerful questioning to create a supportive environment of self-discovery, reflection, and transformation for the client.

3.     Inclusivity and Equality

I do not discriminate against any group, gender, sexual orientation, religion, race, ethnicity, profession, origin, or any other social status. Instead, I consider clients as equal partners in the coaching relationship. The relationship is based on trust and the belief that each client comes with their own unique strengths to succeed on their journey.
